Harvest 2014: Thoughts and Minds

Romeo & Lionel

First of all we have to say that we are already preparing for 2015, working in the vineyard, replacing missing plants and uprooting the ones with Esca.

It's difficult to interpret a vintage unless all the malolactic fermentations, facilitated this year by the hot weather which continued until November 1, are over. That's why we have to wait in order to decide how to distribute wine in the barrels.

The grape selection for the harvest was drastic because of the high humidity records: for this atypical year we have a production of about 30 hectoliters per hectare.

Merlot yield was precocious despite a rainy spring, Cabernet had no inconveniences thanks to its resistant grapes while Sangiovese, which has a thiner and more fragile skin, was more sensible to this unusual climate.

We put our faith and hopes and wish to be up to a famous French adage: c'est dans les années les plus difficiles que l'on reconnait les bons vignerons.
